It is good to teach your children the good and necessary habits right from the start. Kids tend to pick up quick and if you teach them right, they will thank you all their life. They like to copy their adults and while doing so they pick on easily on whatever their parents are doing. How you can help them build such habits is by doing them right in front of the kids. You wouldn’t even have to force them to do things, they will look up to you and try to imitate whatever you are doing.

Same is the case with the dental habits. As soon as the kid gets his first tooth, you should start brushing their teeth. When they turn two or three you should make them understand the importance of taking care of their teeth. Try and do that by making up stories and help them fantasize during the process. Once there is a routine set, they will themselves ask you about brushing regularly.

Here are few things that you must teach your kid if you want them to have strong and healthy teeth.

Teach them the right way to brush

Kids do easily develop the habit of brushing, but they might be too young to understand the importance of the same and might not pay full attention to their brushing. It would be good if you could guide them on how to properly brush their teeth. Hold their hand as they move the brush and help them understand the correct way of brushing the teeth. Keep a check on their speed as well as their stokes might be too harsh for them or sometimes too slow to actually clean the teeth.

Use kid friendly products

There are so many new products coming in the market that we forget the main purpose behind them. There is no wrong in buying fancy toothbrush and fancy toothpaste but they must also fulfil their basic necessity, especially when it comes to the kid. Try to use a mellow toothpaste that wouldn’t be too harsh for their enamel and it is also suggested that you use a soft bristled toothbrush.

Advice them to brush twice

Since you have to guide them as they build their habits, make sure you ask your kids to brush their teeth twice a day. The kids love eating and they do so without thinking what is good or bad for them. Make sure that the kids brush their teeth before they go to the bed. Make it a bed time routine for you and the kid and this way they will look up to it and never actually forget brushing their teeth at night.

Tell them to stay away from sweets and carbonated drinks

Kids will get distracted with the candies and the fancy juices available in the market. It is hard to say no to the kids but even you understand how dangerous it can be for the kid. These candies are sticky and are high in sugar. This can be bad for their teeth. It is better to keep a check on their eating habits than see them suffer later in their life.

Visit the dentist

Whatever you do, do not forget to get the kid to the dentist every now and then. Do not wait for a problem to arise before you consult a dentist. Make an appointment with the dentist and get them checked regularly. This way you can be sure that their is no danger to their teeth and the kids are safe from any kind of serious tooth problem. After all prevention is better than cure.
